More plants are blooming each week. Observations made firsthand
from three trails only, but many of these bloom,
along with others, can be found on the trails.
Trails hiked: Vernal Pool Trailhead to Los Santos, to Ranch Road, to Adobes
Adobes to Vernal Pool Trail, Vernal Pool Trail to Vernal Pool.
Notables:
Ceanothus in showy bloom along Clinton Keith Road
Chocolate Lilies in bloom (Yippee!) on Los Santos Trail.
Additional Chocolate Lily plants observed on right side of Vernal
Pool Trail as you exit the chaparral, not in bloom yet.
In Bloom:
Blenosperma, Ground Pinks, Blue Dicks, Goldfields, Popcorn Flower (at least two species), Wild Cucumber, Milkmaids, Western Buttercup, White Flowering Currant, Mission Manzanita, Red Maids, Oxalis, Johnny Jumpup, Miners Lettuce, Bishops Lotus, Bishops Lotus, Burr Clover, Shining Peppergrass, Smooth Cats Ear, San Diego Pea, Bicolor Everlasting, Shooting Stars, Shortpod Mustard, California Poppy.
Vernal Pool notables:
A few Santa Rosa Plateau Fairy Shrimp still visible!!!! (We’re amazed too!) Water Boatman, Daphnia (Water Fleas), Copapods (Cyclops), Mating Pair of Western Toads, Ostracods (Seed Shrimp), Planaria, Spring tails, Garter Snake, lots of croaking toads, skeleton of Dragon Fly Larvae, Western Spadefoot Toad Eggs.
